Currently, the “Smile Pillow” I make has been used by about 380 people and it has gained a very good rating. Most of my family, relatives, Smile dental employees, even my friends, and about 280 patients use one. Three persons who were using “Mai Makura“, a famous expensive pillow being advertised on the television, have switched to Smile Pillow.

The other day, I got a word from a lady who is over 80 years old saying “I don’t need the sleeping drug which I took every day anymore thanks to the Smile Pillow.” I will write down the story on how “Smile Pillow” came to be, and the importance of a pillow.

1. People’s misconception about sleep無題

Do you not ever think that your body recovers by sleeping?

I have Grade1 of sleep knowledge certificate, and in the textbook I studied had the question “What is the role of sleep?”

In there written “To create, nurture, protect, restore, and improve the brain,”.

Do you notice anything? Yes, It dose not have anything written about the restoration of the body. In other words, there is no direct relationship between body recovery and sleep. It is “rest” that is related to the recovery of the body.

In fact, it seems that many people are not aware that “sleeping” does not necessarily refer to “rest.” Rather, sleeping causes harm to parts of the body. While we are sleeping, we hurt our body more or less every day. Surprisingly, that part is recovering while awake.

These four parts are the neck, shoulder, waist and knee.

When we are young, it does not appear as a subjective symptom, but the damage during sleep accumulates with each passing year, and does not recover daytime, and the symptoms appear in many people aging from about 40 years old which are cervical spondylosis, spondylosis, stiff shoulders, neck stiffness, forty shoulders, fifty shoulders, finger numbness, knee pain, hip pain etc. And many people end up going to osteopathic and orthopedic clinics.

If you conduct symptomatic treatment without knowing the cause, symptoms may gradually deteriorate and you may have difficulty walking or excretion disorder.

Cervical spondylosis that causes this difficulty in walking is a disease that one in two person will most likely get after the age of 70, but many people have no idea that it is cervical spondylosis, and treat it wrong.

I will say it again! “While you are sleeping, you are damaging your body, and it makes the later years hard.”

2. Meet with a pillow that has cured cervical spondylosis and changed your life

2014, October,  I became worried because if the pain on my left arm and the numbness of my pinky and ring finger on the left hand become stronger, I would not be able to do sports.

When I looked it up on the internet, I found out that it was a disease called cervical spondylosis.]7

It seems to be a disease that is difficult to recover so my heart became heavy.

Furthermore, when I surfed the internet, I stumbled upon the site of “Yamada Shiori’s Orthopedic Pillow”. She seemed to be often on TV  and there were lots of videos of her on youtube.

I did not want the condition to become any worse, so I thought I really need that pillow after watching the video, but I could not get it  without going to as far as Osaka 4 years ago. However, she uploaded a video on how to make a pillow, so I decided to try making it myself.

This was the pillow I made for the first time. The materials I used are urethane mats and towels that we found in the home center.

This pillow feels very high when I lie upward, but it was quite comfortable when I turn over (sideways). For the first night, I slept in doubt about whether it was worthwhile. Until that day, I usually used to go out of bed in the middle of the night and sleep on the floor, or go to the next living room and sleep on a carpet.

How is that even me!

I never woken up even once during my sleep that night and to my surprise , my head was still on the pillow the next morning.

Moreover, it was very refreshing when I woke up. That moment I was convinced, “My life is going to change!”

And in one month, the pain in my left arm disappeared. Five months later, even the numbness of my finger disappeared.

It was a miracle!

Also, amazingly, I have never fallen off the pillow for the past four and a half years since then.

There is no recurrence until now (31.3.29) and there is no pain and no numbness at all.

   3. Role of pillow

The pillow has two roles.

1.Make it easy to sleep

When the pillow is fit, it feels good and sleepiness is overwhelmingly better. To fit is that the distribution of power applied to the body is working well.

The ideal is to make the force zero, but it can not be done and the pillows distribute the forces on the face, head, shoulders and neck in a well-balanced manner. I have heard that in the case of weightlessness like space, I can sleep very comfortably.

If you think only about getting asleep, you will benefit from a soft pillow where the power is more dispersed.

2.Protect your health

I had never thought of pillows until I was 58 years old. So it was nice to have a cushion, or even an arm pillow. It seems that many people use “low-resilience pillows” and “feather pillows”, and it certainly feels soft and comfortable. In fact, “low rebound pillow” was also used by me.

However, I say clearly now. “Memory foam pillow”, “feather pillow” is a dangerous pillow! Even if there is “sleeping comfort”, there is almost no element that “protects the health of the body”.

Some people sleep without pillows, but it is very dangerous! Absolutely please pillow!

Please use a pillow that incorporates the “protect your health” element!

As I mentioned earlier, half of people over 70 are cervical spondylosis and this disease is dangerous.

There is a couple of barbers who are patients. As soon as I talked about the pillow, they said, “I want that pillow.” There was a reason for that. “There are a number of barber customers who have cervical spondylosis, many of whom have had surgery, and many who have failed to become wheelchairs.” I thought that it was the information that can be understood only by the profession and the close relationship with the local people for a long time.

So what does it mean that the pirrow protect your health?

It’s easy to roll over on it, and it can protects the neck and shoulders.

1.Importance of ease of turning over

1)Prevent inflammation caused by pressure applied to the same site by changing the position (especially want to prevent inflammation of the cervical spine, spinal cord, which is the trunk)

You have traveled and got on a bus or plane. After 30 minutes in the same posture, the body becomes hard and hard. You will want to move your body. In fact, it is the same when sleeping. I want to move my body. I want to change my position. If you go to bed in a bound state, you will surely die.

2) Promote the flow of lymph fluid
Think about the lymph fluid. The lymph vessels through which the lymph fluid flows are as shown in the figure below.

Actually, lymph fluid flows by contraction of skeletal muscle.

So sports encourage the flow of lymph. On the other hand, if it does not move, it causes the lymph fluid to stagnate. Rollover also helps drain the lymph. The work of lymph fluid is “the excretion of waste products” and “immune function”. Therefore, it is difficult to get tired if it is difficult to turn over, and it brings about frailty.

※ There is a word that “sleeping posture is bad”. In this words, there is an image of something wrong with rolling on bed in the middle of the night. However, “sleeping posture is bad ” was very necessary to the body.

※ There was a woman who said, “I lay on my bed facing up, and when I wake up, I am still facing up so I don’t think I turn or change my position during my sleep.” I requested her to photograph her figure by movie at night. Next morning she watched the movie of her turning or changing her position.

The following sleep situations are not recommended as it is difficult to turn or change your position during your sleep.

  1. Sleep in a double bed with two people … “Love ♡ Love” is realy great, but while sleeping, the bodies are screaming. So using two beds are desirable.無題

2. Protect your neck and shoulders from being hurt all night

If you look from the side when people stand relaxed, it will look like the figure below. The neck falls 15 degrees ahead, the waist is S-shaped and the knee turns 15 degrees. If you look from the front, your body is straight. If you can go to bed with that condition, you will not be too burdened.

If the room is in a state of weightlessness, there is no burden on the body and it will not hurt the body, but this is not the case, so we will devise a state as shown in the figure above.

Although a mattress is important for keeping an easy posture, a pillow made in consideration of the person’s body shape and the hardness of the mattress is more important. So, in principle, go home, measure the height of the right, middle, left, and make a Smile Pillow.

The pillow that many people use now is the same as using reading glasses sold in a 100 yen shop. It does not fit exactly. I usually make the glasses I use usually by inspecting the eyes on the left and right. To get a good night’s sleep without hurting the body, the pillows need to be measured as closely as glasses. I am convinced that “pillows” will be “made by measuring each person” in the near future.

By the way, I have two pillows for bed and tatami at my home. 2cm place for tatami is high. I also bring pillows on the road, but I adjust the height in the hotel bed and go to bed. The smallest pillow I made is about 4 cm high, and the largest pillow is 15 cm high. Right-handed people are often high on the right. Men and women are quite different.

So, I think that the online sales pillow is extremely unlikely to fit you, no matter how popular it is.

※ In the following cases it is when pillow is not correct

  • The head falls from the pillow while sleeping
  • Hold your hand under your pillow while sleeping … This indicates that your pillow is low. Sometimes hands get nervous.

☆I say again! We need personal pillows to help our turning over on the bed  and to protect our neck and shoulders through night!

4. Measures against trauma during sleep

We are doing accompanying exercises such as the heart and lungs during sleep, but there are two actions using voluntary muscles that we always do more than 10 times a night during sleep.

What is it?

“Turning over” and one more “grush and clenching “.

With regard to “grush and clenching “, some people may dispite. I also thought that some people were doing, so five years ago, when I saw NHK’s “ガッテン” I was out of eyes.

It is said that everyone is doing “grunching and clenching”.

The program explained the principle.

There is stomach acid in the stomach. The gastric juice is a strong acid with a pH of about 1 to 1.5, which may cause reflux in the esophagus while sleeping. Regurgitation can lead to esophagitis, but some are working to prevent inflammation.

That’s saliva.

Saliva comes out about 1.5 liters a day, and a considerable amount is swallowed while sleeping. Because saliva is alkaline, it neutralizes acid and pushes back gastric juice and food waste.

I think that I want you to choose good bedding to do good “turn over”.

“grush and clenching” can’t be eliminated, but it is important to balance so that the left and right teeth simultaneously bite. Stiffness may be reduced if you balance the bite.

6.Evaluation of “マイ枕” CM on TV

I actually attempted to let my head hit the pillow in the shop, and it was very wonderful. It was easy to turn over, and the sleeping comfort was quite good.

However, there is a little disappointing point.I think that the height of the pillow is incorrect because the height can only be adjusted in the shop. As the pillow says Dr. Yamada Siori , people also feel the difference in height of 2 mm. In the experience with the Smile pillow, there is a pain in the neck and it disappears because of the difference of 3 mm.

You will need to hold the pillow to the store to get it readjusted. I hear that I do not want to go because it is troublesome. And even if it goes and improves, it will be a modest adjustment again.

When a big man is sleeping on a hard place, you need a pillow about 15 cm, but you will not be able to make a pillow of that height. Even if it is made, it’s packed with stuff, so it’s not possible to use it because it’s bulging hard.

I think “マイ枕” is the best pillow among the pillows on the market. However, it costs around 40,000 yen with a pillow cover. There is also a ready-made “マイ枕” of around 20,000 yen, but it rarely matches.

So far four people have been transferred from “マイ枕” to my ”Smile Pillow”.

7.The stiff neck will be almost cured

What we usually say “stiff neck” can be classified into three.


  1. Cervical septic radiculopathy (C3, C4, C5 below)
  2. Shoulder inflammation due to head weight on shoulder during sleep

This disease started me five years ago. It is a disease that is injured by having the nerves that reach on both sides from between the seven bones of the neck. An acquaintance doctor said that about half of the people over 70 had developed symptoms. It seems that there are many people who have surgery for this disease, but I often hear that those who did not go well with surgery became a wheelchair.

Those who afflict C2 think that the symptoms are migraines and those who afflict C3.C4.C5 think that the symptoms are stiff shoulders..

2.Shoulder inflammation caused by load on the shoulder while sleeping

The average posture during sleeping is said to be about 50% supine and 50% sideways. When facing sideways, the weight of the head and body will be supported by the shoulders. This causes shoulder pain. Some people wake up with shoulder pain during the night. It seems that the pain has been alleviated with the smile pillow now.

Also, I think this is the cause of so-called “40 shoulders”, “50 shoulders”.


The red part of the above mentioned shoulder stiffness classification can be cured or alleviated by the smile pillow.

The green part can be adjusted with smile dentistry.

In other words, most of my stiff shoulders can be treated with my smile dentist.

8.How I cured cervical spondylosis Without Calling a doctor.

Of course, pillows are the most important. We recommend “マイ枕” or “整形外科枕” or “Smile Pillow”. You should use something that protects your neck.

As Dr. Yamada says that the neck is good at 15 degrees, it is not good to be straight and it is even more problematic that the neck is broken back. There is also “神戸枕” that Dr. Wasimi of orthopedics devised. The neck is fixed in anticipation, and it seems to be a thing devoted to medical care that it does not turn over for rest. I think it makes sense. But I think the body is tight.

Because the one who was hurting was the left, I made the left side of the pillow higher and the right side was reverse and lower. Then, even if I turned over, the left cervical spine opened and my nerve was relaxed. My strategy hit me and I was freed from pain and numbness. Now I am healthy. The height of the left and right is not so different. I’m a right handed hand, so the right side is a bit high.

As Dr. Wasimi wrote in the book, I did something other than pillows.

The car is in a tall minivan. Because the line of sight goes down. During the sedan I had my arm hurt during driving. At that time I thought I was doing too much exercise, but I can see that it was caused by cervical spondylosis.

The computer is not good because the neck is facing up. Especially the desktop is not good. . Laptop is recommended. And please work in the posture like the picture.無題

I do not know if it worked, but I drank vitamin B12 for about four months every day.
